MARHABA OPERATION LAUCHED IN GOOD CONDITIONS

The 2022 Marhaba Operation was launched Sunday at the Port Tanger Med in good conditions, with the establishment of a special mechanism to welcome Moroccans living abroad, who will stay for their summer vacations in Morocco.

The port of Tangier Med has capitalized on the pandemic-induced shutdown period to make the necessary improvements to the welcome arrangements.

A budget of MAD 150 million has been allocated to prepare the transit operation and ensure fluidity and comfort, through increased capacity of reception, the comfort of travelers, and control.

"After two years marked by the health crisis, the Tangier Med Port for passengers is ready to start the 2022 Marhaba operation under the supervision of the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity and to welcome Moroccans living abroad in the best conditions," Port Director Kamal Lakhmas told M24, MAP's 24H rolling news TV channel.

The sea fleet servicing the Tangier Med-Algeciras route has been strengthened to reach a daily transport capacity of 40,000 passengers and 10,000 vehicles during the days of heavy traffic, the official explained.

Night ferries with a weekly transport capacity of 20,000 passengers and 7,000 cars have also been mobilized to ensure the long-distance crossings to Spain (port of Barcelona), Italy (port of Genoa), and France (ports of Marseilles and Sete), he added.

According to Lakhmas, the necessary human resources have been strengthened to ensure the success of the operation, while respecting the sanitary context and the public health of citizens.

Recalling that the port Tangier Med is the first gateway to the Kingdom for the Moroccans of the world, the official stated that over 1.5 million passengers will transit through this port during the operation, i.e. nearly 50% of passenger traffic.

For his part, the head of the medical-humanitarian pole at the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, Abdellah Omar Moussa, said that the Foundation is launching the 2022 edition of the Marhaba Operation to welcome Moroccans living abroad, under the Presidency of HM King Mohammed VI.

This year, the transit operation should experience a "significant evolution" compared to the last two years, he said, adding that over 3 million Moroccans living abroad should return to Morocco through the sea, air, and land crossing points, along with thousands of cars and buses.

"The Foundation has mobilized, with its partners, a set of logistical and human resources to meet the expectations of Moroccan expatriates," he affirmed.

A workforce of nearly 1,000 people including the Foundation's teams, social workers, doctors, paramedical, and volunteers are mobilized to listen to Moroccans residing abroad, assist them and provide them with the necessary support and assistance.

The Foundation has the necessary facilities to accommodate members of the community, including the Mediterranean, Jebha, and Tazaghine rest areas, in addition to a rest area opened this year in M'diq (Smir), Omar Moussa said.

This year, he added, the Foundation will cover the airports of Rabat-Salé, in addition to the reception sites in the airports of Casablanca Mohammed V, Oujda Angad, Agadir Al Massira, Fez Saïss, Marrakech Menara and Tangier Ibn Battouta.

The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity and all partners involved in the Operation Marhaba (local authorities, the National Security, the Royal Gendarmerie, Customs, the National Office of Airports, and the National Agency of Ports), have joined their efforts to facilitate administrative and customs procedures, and provide administrative, social and medical services for the benefit of Moroccans living abroad.
